I attached a few pages from the design guidelines to the blog. I believe Steve Gluckman wrote most if not all of it. Outside of speaking to Steve Gluckman or going to the library and doing your own research its one of the best sources for an overview of the neighborhood history.

TAMPA - Long before Cappy's and Starbucks and Interstate 275, cows roamed Seminole Heights. They grazed the Henry and Ola Park until it was time for milking. Then their owners untied them and walked them home.
Before Lowry Park Zoo, schoolchildren toured Boyd's on Nebraska Avenue. It was a service station and a zoo, complete with an alligator, a lion and a chimpanzee, dressed as a gas station attendant.
Girls posed like models in a sunken garden on Central Avenue, and men home from World War II walked their sweethearts around Lake Roberta.
These are the stories buried in the memories of Seminole Heights' oldest residents, their letters, their photos, their treasures. Now, the neighborhood known for its restoration of old bungalows is embarking on a new form of historic preservation:
A documentary.

Go to the library web site. www.hcplc.org
Click on the Information Gateway
Click on Geography and Maps.
Click on Digital Sanborn Maps
Click on Hillsborough County Public Library.
Enter library card #.
Select Florida
Select Tampa
Select 1922, 1931 or 1931-51. These are the maps that cover Seminole Heights. 1915 covers part of Old Seminole Heights.
Select Index Sheet to look up streets. Then go to the indicated Sheet #.
Select Key Sheet to find which sheets of maps cover your area of interest.
If the Key Sheet does not cover your area of interest, you will have to look at each sheet .

Air Base Bus Terminal and Air Base Grill

John J. and Elizabeth C. Schoenborn lived in our home from 1943-1952 and again from 1955 to at least 1968 (we have only researched up to 1968). In the mid-1940's Mrs. Shoenborn worked at the Air Base Grill (shown in the photo).

Seminole Heights Research Project on Thursday
The OSHNA Preservation Committee is doing research on Thursday, July 26th, at the downtown library. You are invited to join us. No experience required.We will meet at 6:30 pm on the 2nd floor (History and Genealogy) of the John F. Germany Library, 900 N. Ashley Dr.We will continue the City Directory research on Hampton Terrace. The City Directories provide a year- by-year record of who lived at any given address in Tampa. This allows us to construct a chain of occupancy for all the contributing structures in the proposed historic district.You can learn how to do this research by beginning with your own house.We will also be continuing the examination of historic newspapers for stories and information about Seminole Heights.Please email Steve Gluckman if you think you might join us so we have some idea of how many to expect.
